Designing the Human-Centered Workforce of the Future

This year has been a grind. In many ways, I bet everything on black, stepping fully into entrepreneurship to trust the vision I carry. Some days are exciting, others terrifying. Most days are both.

But a recent trip to Orlando, Florida shifted my perspective. I facilitated a Strategic Workforce Planning session for 30 visionary entrepreneurs at the National Entrepreneur Center through CMET. During an unfiltered Q&A, a profound truth emerged: entrepreneurs are incredibly solution-oriented, yet we often shoulder this massive operational load in a silo.

We get trapped in the exhausting mindset of asking, "How can I do this all?" which inevitably leads to burnout and limits our potential. Yet, when we step out of isolation, shift our perspective to ask "Who can help me?", and come together, true connection and learning happen. This is what Dan Sullivan frames perfectly in his book Who, Not How.

Together, a group of 30 entrepreneurs explored how to intentionally build the workforce of the future from an HR lens by focusing on Workforce Agility. We discussed how to adapt to rapid technological shifts and AI integration without exhausting our people. I saw pieces of my own journey reflected in these leaders, betting on themselves to build resilient, human-centered organizations where productivity and wellbeing reinforce each other.

Walking through that collaborative space affirmed the vision we are building through Connect to Purpose (C2P). Connect to Purpose is a nonprofit dedicated to empowering early-stage entrepreneurs, especially minority- and women-owned businesses, with pro bono human resources and organizational development services. I created C2P because I know a hard truth: waiting until you "need" HR usually means you are already in a crisis.

After more than 2 decades in human resources, I know most founders don’t plan to create toxic work environments, burn out, or face compliance issues. I also know that they just didn't plan not to. Through programs like our HR Bootcamps and our Virtual HR Readiness Accelerator, it’s about creating spaces where leaders access the resources and community they need to thrive, build capacity, and grow sustainably. We act as your external "Who," helping you build a compliant, equitable foundation so you can delegate without fear.

If you are ready to stop building in a silo and start designing an agile, aligned organization, let's connect. Email hello@connect2purpose.org to explore services that co-create what is next for nonprofits and small businesses.

Because building a business should not mean breaking yourself, or your team.
